Empowering Young Women

Eye of the Artists provides training, leadership development and interactive arts exposure for underserved young women ages 13 – 19 through conferences, monthly training, special outings, and sisterhood gatherings using visual, perfroming, and literary art to honor outstanding women in our community.

My Sista My Friend young women’s conferences provide a large venue that features a full day of workshops and sessions on health, wellness, finding financial aid for college, managing stress, building self-esteem, and much more. This bi-annual conference was established in 2006 and has served 400 young women. In 2008 it served 250 young women. The conference is held at venues throughout the community. Several notable guests and instructors include national Grammy-award winning recording artists Yolanda Adams, the CEO of Drake Center, Dr. Karen Bankston, and Radio personality for WMOJ Faith Daniels.

My Sista My Friend Leadership Development Circle provides monthly workshops are held at our location on the 3rd Saturday of each month for young women. The workshops are taught by professional women in the community and incorporate a group mentoring approach to teaching the young women. Professional women have donated their time and expertise to help the young women.

Dada Rafiki, (pronounced Dah-dah, Rah fee-Kee), is a unique art exhibit and sisterhood celebration that brings art directly to the community to expose audiences to diverse art forms. The art collections are donated to non-profit organizations that serve the public and have high traffic areas in their facilities. Past collections, valued at over $100,000.00 have been donated to the Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Agency, Frederick Douglass School, and Bond Hill Academy. The art is used to celebrate and honor women, from diverse backgrounds, who serve the community.
